Deep Dives
"I attended a Deep Dive because I was interested in a more detailed understanding of the tools and concepts. These sessions definitely had that concept in mind, rather than the sales-oriented approach people often take at conferences like this."

DD 1: 2011 Performance Seminar
Craig Shallahamer

This Oracle database performance seminar is composed of one-third Oracle internals, one-third quantitative diagnosis and analysis and one-third new material the speaker has yet to incorporate into his performance firefighting courses. While each section can stand on its own, the sections have been carefully integrated together into a single cohesive seminar, building from one section to the next. The seminar consists of five main sections:

  • Oracle performance data gathering methods
  • Analyzing resource consumption
  • Numerically and visually creating a map of the performance situation
  • An introduction of how performance solutions alter the system and the user's experience
  • Deeply exploring the wait events buffer busy wait and read by other session

This is an intensive and fast-moving seminar that will leave you better equipped to tackle real-life production Oracle database performance issues. This seminar does not delve into Oracle's optimizer and tuning SQL statements.

The session will conclude with an in-depth review of the features and functions that all data warehouses need to provide the performance that is needed to turn data into knowledge. The session will provide the attendee with the information needed to design, build and deploy a data warehouse.

You will have the chance to learn the following:

  • Why we build data warehouses?
  • Data warehouse development methodologies, including Agile
  • Data warehouse design techniques
  • How to implement Oracle for a data warehouse
